Search tips & help Discover
Boolean versus Google
Discover supports both intuitive Google-like queries and formal boolean queries. It is not advised to mix these two method
Boolean and Google-like search | |||
|---|---|---|---|
Boolean | AND | OR | NOT |
+ | not available | - | |
Examples | water management rain AND water OR clouds +rain +water -sunny | ||
Change precedence by using parentheses, e.g.:
(word1 OR word2) AND world3
By default, typing in word1 word2 word3 translates to:
word1 AND word2 AND word3
Truncation / wildcards
Use an asterisk (*) to truncate right. | |
|---|---|
Example: | hydrolog* |
Phrase Search
Use "quotes" for phrase search | |
|---|---|
Example: | "morphology of high purity" |
Special characters
Discover does not yet support automatic retrieval of special characters, for example the German umlaut. So, if necessary, also use diacriticals to retrieve more complete results. | |
|---|---|
Examples: | author=röbke OR author=robke übersicht OR ubersicht |
