New: automatic book renewal

31 January 2013

To make it even easier for you to borrow books, on 12 February 2013 we will be introducing an automatic loan renewal system. There will also be changes to the fines.

Every opportunity to read the book

As from 12 February 2013 we renew any books you borrow automatically. The official loan period from then on will be 4 weeks for everyone. We will renew your books automatically every 4 weeks provided they have not been reserved by someone else. No action is required by you. We will be offering this service as standard* in our libraries, because we want to give you every opportunity to use the books you borrow. After all, the books are there to be borrowed, not to fill the library shelves.

You may keep the book for a maximum of six months

Please return the book to the library after six months. If no one else has reserved the book, you will be free to take it out again straight away. We will send you an e-mail reminder to return the book on time before the end of the six-month period.

Has your book has been reserved by someone else?

It won't be possible to renew the book if it has been reserved by someone else. If someone else reserves the book you have borrowed, we will send you an e-mail with the request to return the book, if you no longer need it.

Fines

From 12 February you will be fined €0.20 per book for every day that you exceed the loan period, with a maximum of €10 per book. You will only be able to borrow new books once you have paid any fines owed.

Please don't hesitate to contact us if you have any questions or comments.

* Automatic renewal only applies to holders of a library membership card or TU Delft campuscard.
