TU Delft Library

Open Access

Open Access is intended to enable unlimited and worldwide sharing of knowledge and information. This includes providing free online access to research. In alliance with scientists, academics and other libraries, TU Delft Library is developing applications to make Open Access publishing possible.

Examples include the TU Delft Repository and the 3TU.Data Centre. Publishing in the TU Delft Repository and in Open Access can offer benefits for academics.

The cost of publishing in Open Access

On average, the author’s fee for an Open Access article is €1500. Certain publishers (OUP, RSC, BioMed and ASC, for example) offer you a discount on the author’s fee because TU Delft has agreed licences with them.

Hybrid Open Access journals

In addition to Open Access journals, there are also some journals that only partially apply the principles of Open Access. These journals include a combination of Open Access articles, paid for by the author, and articles that are accessible on subscription only. This is the case with some Elsevier journals, for example, or some online journals which do not apply Open Access principles to all their academic publications. An agreement made with Springer makes it possible to publish the scientific papers in Open Access modus for free untill juli 2012.

Open Access Fund

TU Delft faculties or research groups are themselves responsible for funding the Open Access publications of their academics. If a faculty is unable to pay the author’s fee, TU Delft Library can assist by financing all or part of it from the Open Access Fund, which was founded in 2008. Your publications needs to be reviewed by a recognized publisher who operates with Open Access as a business model. The scope of the Open Access Fund is limited to sponsoring articles that are published in journals that are not included in the subscriptions of TU Delft Library.

The Open Acces Fund is also available for the (co) sponsoring of books and bookchapters of scientific origin.
